How To Witness To Jews 2

Since many truths that are related to the gospel can be established by Old Testament scriptures, an Israelite will probably be more open to learning those truths from the Old Testament. I am confident there are many more gospel truths and scriptures that I have not included here. I would love to have you share with me any that you know of. Most of these passages were provided to me by a delightful brother in the Lord, John Hawkins.

All have sinned

1 Kings 8:46a: If they sin against thee, (for there is no man that sinneth not,) . . .

2 Chronicles 6:36a: If they sin against thee, (for there is no man which sinneth not,) . . .

Psalms 14:1b: . . . there is none that doeth good.

Psalms 14:3: They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

Psalms 39:5b: . . . verily every man at his best state is altogether vanity.

Ecclesiastes 7:20 For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.

Isaiah 53:6: All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

Jeremiah 6:13: For from the least of them even unto the greatest of them every one is given to covetousness; and from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely.

Jeremiah 17:9: The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

The results of sin

Exodus 34:6-7: And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children*s children, unto the third and to the fourth generation.

Psalms 9:17: The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.

Ezekiel 18:4: Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.

Ezekiel 18:20: The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.

You can*t save yourself

Psalms 143:2: And enter not into judgment with thy servant: for in thy sight shall no man living be justified.

Proverbs 14:12: There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

Proverbs 20:9: Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?

Ezekiel 33:13: When I shall say to the righteous, that he shall surely live; if he trust to his own righteousness, and commit iniquity, all his righteousnesses shall not be remembered; but for his iniquity that he hath committed, he shall die for it.

A changed heart is necessary (The new birth)

Psalms 55:19: God shall hear, and afflict them, even he that abideth of old. Selah. Because they have no changes, therefore they fear not God.

1 Samuel 16:7: But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.

Jeremiah 17:9-10: The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.

1 Chronicles 28:9: And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: for the LORD searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: if thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever.

Psalms 7:9: Oh let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end; but establish the just: for the righteous God trieth the hearts and reins.

Messiah would come and die a substitutionary death

Isaiah 53:1-11: Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed? For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are heal All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken. And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth. Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand. He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.

Daniel 9:26a: And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: . . .

Repentance is needed for salvation

Psalms 32:5: I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin.

Proverbs 28:13: He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.

A humble prayer for salvation will be answered

2 Chronicles 7:14: If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Psalms 139:23-24: Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

Psalms 51:10: Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

Don*t put it off

Joshua 24:15: And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

Proverbs 27:1: Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.

Isaiah 55:6: Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:

At some point in dealing with an Israelite it may be helpful to explain Gentiles* relationship with the Lord by this New Testament verse:

Romans 11:25: For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.
